Burns Night 2011 at The Red Lion Barnes
Planning is now underway for a truly thespian Burns Night in The Red Lion. We are scouring Barnes' local community for famous faces to attend to read selected poems during the night from the Scottish Poet.
The evening will involve a top quality Scottish dinner, especially given the chef/manager's Scottish roots. A piper will be piping in the haggis & the drams will be flowing. The 25th January will be truly authentic and something not to be missed. The menu will appear here shortly, spaces will be limited. Get in touch now to book your table, you will not regret it, that is a certainty.
In the great man's words ;
“Some have meat, and cannot eat, And some cannot eat that want it; But we have meat, and we can eat - And let the Lord be thanked.”

Take a hike !
One thing that we have not yet written about is the surroundings of The Red Lion Barnes. One of it's greatest features is that it is set in beautiful, leafy, SW13. Having spent fifteen years in London it was not until we were "posted" here that we discovered it at all, having now lived here for the past seven years we fully appreciate what a lovely place it is.
Here is something you must try. Have a walk along the banks of the river Thames.
Take yourself down to Putney embankment (where the university boat race starts), park the car up (check the tides !) and take a walk, don't forget the dog & bring the kids too.(if applicable/delete as appropriate)

Read the signs |
Walk over the footbridge at the far end of the embankment from Leaders Garden, there is a little kids playground here, & keep going for about fifteen minutes, after having passed Fulham Football Club's Craven Cottage on the opposite Middlesex Bank, & Wandsworth Council's Barn Elms boathouse on our Surrey bank , you will see our signpost, follow it up Queen Elizabeth Walk, past The London Wetland Centre, which is also well worth a visit (great kid's adventure playground) & hey presto you will arrive in Barnes, but more importantly you will arrive at The Red Lion. Now all you have to do is eat, drink & relax, then work out who is going to fetch the car !
Parking's OK but watch the water ! |

Treat the man in your life this Christmas !
Add a true pub feel to your parties this year and buy your beer from the pub, rather than going to the supermarkets. You can buy the party barrels and then collect them from most Fuller's pubs , but you must leave for 36 hours before consuming. They must not be moved once already settled as you will have to wait another 36 hours or you will get a cloudy pint!
It is the perfect opportunity to get as near to cask conditioned in your own home & the price is very reasonable too. They are always available throughout the year from the pub, or from the brewery shop, but HSB and ESB are exclusive to the Christmas period.
Contact us now at The Red Lion Barnes to place your order.

Going, going.........
Thanksgiving Dinner
The time is approaching for us to start taking bookings for our ever popular Thanksgiving dinner. As ever we have used authentic recipes and we have a really good following. The cornbread stuffing recipe was given to me by an American Airlines stewardess twelve years ago !
-Cider Glazed Turkey, 5 different vegetables including candied yams & mashed rutabagas all followed by a good slice of pumpkin pie.
Call us now to book, don't miss out. This really is the real deal.
